Something that's been misconstrued from my position is that I'm defeatist or that I don't want to see electoral success for the Greens. That's wrong. I believe strongly that we can win, & that we is more than just the Greens. I think the way we win is not through parliament.
When I say "we can win" I mean the broad coalition of people who are disaffected by this system, the Greens should take a central role in facilitating that, but we're already committed to working with other parties and organisations in achieving necessary change regardless.
When I talk to people about what it means to win I don't want to talk about putting a Greens PM in power. I want to talk about building democracy to make collective decisions at work and in communities, to make sure no one goes hungry or without a home or dies in poverty.
Rebuilding collective power is the goal. An important one. It makes it possible to spread the understanding that no one should be exploited, that wealth should be shared equally AND impose it. Whether that leads to support for the Greens is dependant on where we are positioned.
It's important that we keep talking about winning power, but also where power lies and how it is exercised /outside/ of parliament. We genuinely can win but it'll necessarily have to be about more than just the Greens winning, we must be okay with that if want to change society.
