I have mixed feelings about this article. I've read it and I'm at a loss for words — not as though I'm taking sides because the case has been taken to court. As we wait for clarity on this matter, PLEASE READ ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY'S LABOUR LAW AND CHECK IF PENSIONS ARE BEING PAID!! https://twitter.com/Manasseh_Azure/status/1385593873058127875
There are so many many clauses stated in the article about the working contracts these Bishops signed up for which has me wondering if the average Ghanaian earning a salary has read their contracts in detail. Are these contracts incongruous with the country's laws?
I know it looks as though this situation cannot happen to you but trust me, you never know. If you read the article, you see both the church and the pastors defending their claims and backing it with the law — something I am sure most employees know, even basic law.
Before you draw your swords and sling them nonchalantly, read the article and also read your country's labour law. Find out of the institution you work for or serve , is bound or exempted from the law. Don't assume, CHECK!!
And just in case you think I am siding with the pastors and not the church, then let me make it clear. I am not siding with anyone. I am a Christian and respect the decision of anyone who chooses to take up an office in the house of God.
However, if people are contracted as employees in Church to ensure the smooth operation of activities that we benefit from to build our faith, then we also have to look at the laws governing these contracts; holding the contractors and the one being contracted accountable.
