Chilling on the couch after a SUPER fun chat with @melissawm from @numpy_team and @ReaderMeter from @cziscience and hosts @luis_in_brief and @joshsimmons both from @tidelift. Buzzing from all the fantastic conversation. We could have gone on for hours!!
I wasn’t logged into the @streamyardapp software so I couldn’t type answers to the AWESOME questions from the viewers. (Doh! Next time!) But I’m going to try to answer a couple here. Please feel free to ask others too if it’s useful or reply with thoughts.
I started out introducing the Tools, Practices & Systems Programme that I run @turinginst. And I said - as I always do - that I want to rename it to #OpenInfrastructure because that is a MUCH more exciting and forwards looking space to energise innovation. https://www.turing.ac.uk/research/research-programmes/tools-practices-and-systems
And one of the questions was how my vision of #OpenInfrastructure as it relates to #reproducibility, #FAIRData, #EquityAndInclusion and #TeamScience was similar to the @openinfradev? https://openinfra.dev
I freaking LOVE this question - THANK YOU to whomever asked it - because I'd never heard of @openinfradev 😱😱😱 And the reason is the same as my answer - the concept of #OpenInfrastructure is exactly the same.... but the communities don't overlap.
I do know about @InvestInOpen - which includes a broad #ScholarlyCommunications community (library science, publishing etc), and I am endlessly inspired by the #Infrastructure layers of @ProjectJupyter @mybinderteam @2i2c_org. Image CC-BY: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.3332807
Bringing @yuvipanda's recommendation of @OpenSourceInfra into this thread too. See - there are so many folks working in this space!

AND YET so little funding goes into supporting and sustaining #OpenInfrastructure for research. https://twitter.com/yuvipanda/status/1385710507022114818?s=20
The @turinginst #TPS programme aims "to support open source infrastructure built by and empowering a global, decentralised network of people who connect data with domain experts."

To embed our values into everything we do.

There was another question about how the @turingway community has worked with neurodivergent people. I'm SO sorry that I didn't get to talk about this because it is SUCH an important area of inclusion - and heavily relates to our goal of **respectful** co-creation.
Another project I lead is the @AutSpaces citizen science platform which is funded by @Autistica and build on the AWESOME #OpenInfrastructure of @OpenHumansOrg (infra as in code, database, api, AND ethics & community review processes).

The BEST BEST BEST thing about working with our AMAZING #Autistic collaborators is that a rising tide lifts all boats. When we make a project accessible for neurodivergent people, we make it easier for everyone.
We don't have all the answers @AutSpaces (& we really need help w @djangoproject development if anyone wants to offer some time in the summer to review PRs etc!!) but we're doing our VERY best work openly from the start and to upskill anyone who wants to take part as they need.
The standard question at the end of the @tidelift live stream is "What are you excited about?"

@melissawm - based in Brazil where the #COVID19 numbers are still terrifyingly high - gave a BEAUTIFUL answer about how #OpenScience can help develop #Vaccines faster.
My answer was to shout out the INCREDIBLE @Nadia_Soliman_ whose trainings on "Service as Leadership" are truly exceptional. THIS is what I'm excited about. #Care, #Nurture, #Maintenance, #Support for our communities. This is what a leader looks like.

Oh wait - one more (actually two 😉) thing.

We talked about credit for #OpenSource contributions.

The @turingway handbook has a fantastic section on our philosophy of giving people acknowledgment in the form that means the most to them.

https://the-turing-way.netlify.app/community-handbook/acknowledgement.html
(I might have said "yeah, #SoftwareCitiation is good, better than what we have now, but it's also boring" 😜😜)

Taking an old system of credit - citations from academic papers - and applying them to software is missing the BEAUTY and POTENTIAL of what we COULD do!
But also please do submit your work to the special edition of @thePeerJ that @danielskatz and @npch are editing! https://peerj.com/special-issues/84-software https://twitter.com/danielskatz/status/1381946089096503297?s=20
If you read that section of @turingway you'll see that we don't give chapters individual author acknowledgements. Because it is a huge barrier to maintenance and shared ownership.

BUT (but but but) I do want to raise up the EXCEPTIONAL @MalvikaSharan.

https://www.turing.ac.uk/people/spotlights/malvika-sharan
We have 300+ contributors @turingway & almost all have been welcomed, supported & inspired by @MalvikaSharan.

The WAY we create @turingway is what makes the project so special. If we didn't have a leader who empowered so many, we wouldn't be the beautiful community we are 💕💕💕
Ok, and lastly, we also shared some big love for @yoyehudi 🌺🌺🌺

Go check out her - with @Bilal_A_Mateen and @_RebeccaKnowles (all @wellcometrust) recent comment: "We need to talk about the lack of investment in digital research infrastructure"

https://doi.org/10.1038/s43588-021-00048-5
There should definitely be a future chat with @bebatut @MalvikaSharan @yoyehudi and @emmy_ft about @openlifesci - a truly spectaular training programme that is building the #OpenInfrastructure (or #OpenSource or #OpenScience) leaders of tomorrow 🙌🏽🙌🏿🙌🏻 https://openlifesci.org
Hugs all y'all. Stay safe. And thank you for all the inspiration.
