guys, this is really important when dealing with translations (my own included)

if you follow more than 1 translator, you may find just as many ways of translating, because some go for a more literal approach while others try to find equivalents in the language they translate to https://twitter.com/warmkexings/status/1385669261704654849
however, it’s important to apply a certain level of skepticism and if you can, actually be exposed to more than one translator to get full context

for example, when translating spoken words, depending on the tone used, there may be two completely different translations
both would be perfectly accurate but would mean completely different things in English

in this specific case, the translator had been learning Chinese for less than a year and while I applaud them for it, they should’ve made it clear in case they mislead people
the comparison of the translation process is actually pretty damn accurate (and highly relatable lmfao) but the way they were complaining afterwards about the author’s word usage turned a very normal thing (aka using WORDS) into something much more... alarming?
this could get people who trust your translations to make a big deal out of nothing and it’s just Bad for everyone involved

that being said, for everyone relying on translators, please also keep an open mind and be forgiving (see some of the reasons listed above)
i dont think it’s possible to do a “perfect” translation of anything but you can try to be as accurate as possible (Twitter has a character limit so some may make translation threads while others simplify their translations to highlight the essence of what is being translated)
anyways, all this to say that translators face limitations so as readers, it’s best to both be forgiving of potential mistakes and/or inaccuracies while also keeping a certain level of skepticism because translations may include a translator’s personal interpretation 🥰
