1990s were an altogether different time - of optimism, but also of "heightened awareness"

Militia mvmts with yuge followings, millions of ppl listened to Bill Cooper on the radio, antiglobalist mvmts on the right AND left

Asking "what went wrong?" is worthwhile exercise here
The post-9/11 world might plausibly be viewed as "The Regime (Successfully) Strikes Back"

In the 00s the War on Terror moastly buried the antiestablishment Radical Left

And the activities since the Obama years have done their best to do away with the antiestablishment Right
In the 90s one very interesting work discussed the possibility of Civil War II long before that topic became mainstream

It is remarkable to look at this work and think how many of the predictions finally came true

Mind you there were some mistakes: no breakup to ethnostates yet
The author said that the struggle would unfold in 4 phases, the last of which would be continuous warfare in US cities

He was challenged to pick a date and time when this Phase 4 would occur (writing in 1995 or so)

His response was: May 2020 (!) - in LA not MPLS, oh well
That's creepily spot on. He also said there would be features like - barricaded ethno zones, raids on police station, successful clashes with police and military by insurgents and so on

And that the indicator would be major ongoing unrest in US cities for an entire summer (!)
If there is one major criticism of this view, it was too rooted in the 20th cent view of warfare, not guessing that the 21st would be heavy on information warfare and mob light infantry actions using low-tech (sticks, stones, molotov) successfully against superior forces
Though he did address the likely parallels that would emerge between the conflicts he personally took part in, in the Yugoslav War, and the situation that would evolve in the US (i.e. given such a patchwork population in the US and Balkans both, with similar ethnic feuds)
