I think having lived through mental illness and anxiety episodes with someone I loved - you absolutely set boundaries and try to protect yourself. You absolutely have to put on your oxygen mask before you can help anyone else.
At the same time, when you’re desperately hoping that person gets help, when that’s what you pray for/are working towards - an admission of “I’m not ok, help me” & you get that call, you take it long enough to see if it’s that “help me” holy grail call you’re waiting for.
If it’s not, you hang up again and reestablish that boundary - that unless you’re willing to help yourself, do not call me. So that’s what is frustrating about Olivia not taking those calls. I absolutely want her mentally safe, but you take that call long enough to find out
You take that call, and if you aren’t equipped or ready to handle it, you point the person in the direction where help can be found. You do not simply ignore it. Olivia is not perfect, not infallible, not superhuman and I don’t expect her to get it right every time.
I do think this shows that crack in her armor because I don’t feel like when dealing with someone in a mental health crisis, that she got this one right. And I think that’s what makes the show interesting. She isn’t perfect and we are seeing that and it makes her more relatable.
He’s off his axis, she’s off her axis and they both are going to have to figure it out. I’m here for that story. ❤️
