Glenn Greenwald is the natural endpoint of a leftist whose politics are exclusively about hating liberals. Be careful, it could happen to you.

A lot of the hostile replies here make a few basic errors, which arise from not having a dialectical materialist understanding of politics.

1) to say Glenn was never a leftist doesn't account for the fact that he has held a range of political positions over the last 20 years

2) what is "left" is not a metaphysical, permanent position, but contextual based on the actually existing contradictions at a given time. Pre-Occupy, the primary contradiction was around war and imperialism (e.g. drone strikes), which is where Glenn was

3) this is precisely why a mere hated of liberalism (though justified), is not enough to create a correct politics. In many situations, e.g. the 2020 election, the PRIMARY contradiction is not "left vs liberal" but "liberal democracy vs nationalist fascism."

There's a reason that so many post-Occupy anarchists went into an infowars type reactionary posture, much like Glenn, and will continue to do so, without a thorough philosophical grounding that can actually move towards revolution.

Hatred of liberals, without either a Socialist, feminist and anti-racist horizon + a commitment to dialectical materialism, can be marshalled to support ANY political or cultural project, even (in the case of Cenk Uygur) liberalism!
