Ladies, femmes, and other feminine presenting and/or woman aligned individuals: stay home tomorrow if you can. If you can& #39;t, have something for self defense and be on high alert.
Heres a thread on ways to stay safe in the even that tomorrow escalates:
1. If you have pepper spray, brass knuckles, etc. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO HAVE THEM AT THE READY. Not tucked in your purse or in the bottom of your backpack.
2. If you& #39;re being followed around a store (grocery, mall, department, etc.) find an adult (esp with children) and quietly make it clear that you& #39;re being followed, then pretend you know them or are a relative.
3. I& #39;m sure every afab person has heard this tired old trick for years, but it works: travel in packs. Need to study at the library? Invite 2 or 3 friends. Going to the mall? Hit up the groupchat.
4. If you think your car is being followed, drive around the block and see if they follow you in that circle. If they are, DO NOT GO HOME! Pull into somewhere well lit, preferably someplace like a fire station, campus security building, etc.
5. If someone attempts to corner you, you probs think a nut shot will work, but not always. Try and get your attacker in the eyes and/or throat.
6. If you& #39;re on foot and you think a car is slowing down to follow you, get inside of somewhere where there are people IMMEDIATELY. If it& #39;s a public place and they enter it too, it makes it obvious that they were following you. Ask for help, such as a safe place to--
6.2. --stay until theyve left, or to alert the authorities.
7. I cannot stress this enough: TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU ARE GOING. Especially over a text or voice memo. If something happens to you, there& #39;s a record of where you were last.
8. This is played out, but don& #39;t be afraid to pretend you& #39;re on the phone. Most phones will shut their screens off during calls when held to your ear, so it doesnt matter if no one actually called you. Just talk and talk and talk.
9. If you& #39;re staying at a hotel or apartment and someone attempts to follow you or press to know of you& #39;re alone, tell them that you don& #39;t live alone. Claim that your room is on another floor than it really is and claim to have roommates or a spouse, even if that isn& #39;t true.
10. If you& #39;re going on a date with someone you& #39;ve met online or even in general and you fear what may happen tomorrow, make a safeword with a friend or family member that you& #39;ll text them to come and pick you up. Something short, cuz long texts can be suspicious.
