Mortal Kombat (1995) is a better Mortal Kombat movie than Mortal Kombat (2021) in every way. The new one isn't bad like Annihilation, it's just also not good.
It felt almost like they had a different action movie and then ran a Mortal Kombat filter on it. I had a good time and it was fun but I think my expectations were set too high after seeing the preview. I can totally understand why feelings on this can be divisive.
My two biggest issues were the decision to go with a pretty bland and boring new character as the protagonist and the acting. Sometimes the acting felt Resident Evil cutscene bad. Some of the fights were solid and that's mostly what I came for anyway =P
There's a huge difference between saying you didn't like a movie and telling someone else they shouldn't like a movie. I thought MK was bad and I have no problem with people who enjoyed it. I mean, I'm good friends with numerous people who like Tokyo Drift. It's cool, no sweat.
If someone thinks Mortal Kombat is a good movie, nothing I can say will convince them otherwise because the best argument I have against it is the movie itself.
