The r&b genre might die out in a few years or will have a huge comeback becoming the top genre. U have artist like jhene, summer, giveon, dvsn, cholexhalle, bryson, her etc that are producing good music but aren’t getting the recognition they deserve.
Here’s where the problem lies,

Pop music is having a negative effect on R&B. Pop artist are capitalizing off of using r&b elements while REAL r&b artist are struggling to be heard. The award shows are undermining the genres talent as if the genre doesn’t exist.
This shift is causing some r&b artist to lean into rap/hiphop elements which will eventually cause a merge between the two bc the genre itself is already being overshadowed.
Twitter is also apart of the problem. Twitter support rarely transforms into actual support especially for black artist. For example cholexhalle has viral tweets about their appearance/beauty but never about the music. Can we stop this?
I can see the gp falling back in love with r&b music but it might take some time. Rap/hiphop is dominating in every aspect rn with pop following behind. R&B music is a good cleanse for the soul & it need to be appreciated more.
