This is hilarious to me because Disney started “Gay Days” in like the 90s and was years ahead of almost everyone else but liquor companies in terms of making a play for our disposable income, especially at the parks, so this dummy doesn’t know he’s already lost the war https://twitter.com/orlandosentinel/status/1385581448363716608
One of my favorite gay essayists, Michael Thomas Ford, whose books I devoured in college, has a SCREAMINGLY funny essay about this and basically right-wing curmudgeons have been making the exact same complaints about Disney Parks not belonging to them for like thirty years
What people like this resent isn’t the park having a special weekend for gay families, or the absence of “Song of the South” iconography from Splash Mountain - it’s knowing that Disney only made those calls because they know the dollars are on our side, and he is outnumbered.
brb I’m gonna go to my bookshelf and find that essay you guys are gonna love it
okay sorry it took me a minute I have three of his books

HERE WE GO

little queer history lesson here for the youths, this book was published in 1999, so you’re going to enjoy reading about how the Right hasn’t developed a single new argument since then
THERE ARE MORE OF US THAN THERE ARE OF THEM
also just INCREDIBLY funny that this was all about goddamn HERCULES, one of the QUEEREST DISNEY MOVIES this side of Mulan
anyway Michael Thomas Ford was one of my formative queer writers when I was a newly-out baby gay and his essay about how freelancer tax deductions are a personal contest of wills between you and the IRS is my gospel and wherever he is I hope he's having a great day
