OK so here’s some thoughts I am having rephrasing/repeating some if what was said here last night and in response to some of what people had to say to the 🪡🧵: https://twitter.com/brujacontumbao/status/1385453366906540037
People are so quick to equate policing with a solution and tell you “well how will you address X problem, you have no solutions.” But policing isn’t addressing the problem or a solution, it is policing it. Policing is policing. It’s right in the word, even!
Abolitionists are the ones who want to address the problem policing polices. We are the ones who understand policing is a dearth of solution, violence in absence of solution, harm and exploitation and punishment instead of solutions.
That’s why you have all those stories about the absolutely absurd things people call police for-we’ve surrendered so much to policing. We don’t solve things ourselves. We are prevented by the state and policing literally and legally from doing so, often times.
“No cops no prisons??? Well we can’t do just do nothing” ignores that we already are doing nothing as policing is an abdication of responsibility and accountability to surrender all control and work to a system that polices. Not helps, solves, not ends-polices.
Lastly, while I have a LOT of ideas and know of a lot of police-free tactics that have been successfully used across the world and over time, I can talk about abolition without offering every angry lib, cop-aboo and prison weeb a concrete, flawless, perfect full plan on abolition
It’s wild how quick y’all are to come at people with weird bad faith interrogative “asks” that ignores abolition in every facet a communal response and again, pretends policing isn’t policing...
...but a “solution” that abolitionists merely dislike and want to switch out for something we haven’t thought of or only talk about in theory.

Meanwhile, they have all of the real results of policing as policing at their disposal but still hold onto it based on theories.
“THEORETICALLY cops should community police, they should help people, they should only stop the real bad guys, prisons should change people or be sites of exploitation and violence they shouldn’t kill Black people and other POC!” But they don’t? It doesn’t work like that?
So while you’re telling me I have “Just questions/theories no solutions,” you’re literally holding us to a system based on a fuckton of flimsy hypotheticals...
...based on ideas of reform and hopes of how it could be maybe made into something it never was and never showed intent or ability into becoming. And chances are *you* have no concrete ideas or practices for reforming it, not history of working on it, much less successfully.
I don’t need y’alls permission and you aren’t a superior on a board who needs to approve of what I’m talking about, especially as you would crumble and fold with even an inch of the same vigor and interrogation you come at me with.
“U won’t cater to ME random internet gnat?? Good luck with your FUTURE PLANS” I’m an organizer who has already seen the fruits of abolition practices! Worry about your cops, not me! Quit coming at Black people (esp who have done the work that you have not) with this BS! 🪡✂️🧵
