So I just learned about Asper Kanojo. Which is apparently about a guy meeting a girl with Asperger's. Cautiously interested because intentional autistic representation is pretty uncommon in anime and manga, but I fear it may end up falling into bad tropes...
Depictions of autism are already pretty uncommon in media and accurate/favourable ones are vanishingly rare. After Sia's disgusting movie Music I've been dying for something that represents people like me well.
It goes without saying that there is no one true autistic experience, it is called a spectrum for a reason. But so often we're portrayed as macguffins rather than real people, it's exhausting. https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoBestFriendsPlay/comments/9h0bss/ok_that_predator_autism_shit_is_making_me_mad_rant/
This rant got out of hand, I'm gonna read the manga when I have a spare hour or two and maybe report back here. I think I'm making this thread because the possibility of being represented in one of my favourite art forms is exciting and scary.
