The Importance of Beyoncé's hair looks from Lemonade🍋

**A Thread**
Tignon Law
In 1786, it became illegal for women of African descent to show their hair in public. Thus, many creole women did not despair but abided the rule and turned it into fashion by wrapping up their hair in gorgeous cloths along with jewels and ribbons.
Cornrows
Cornrows were used as maps to Freedom. Benkos Bioho came up with an idea to convey maps through the cornrows. This would prevent the people from getting caught and facing extreme punishment.
Cornrows were labelled as unprofessional (according to TIME) until they started popping in white celebrities heads. Women of colour still face the stigma but Beyoncé's cornrows prove that this protective style is anything but unprofessional. She also wore them to the GRAMMYs.
Mangbetu Majesty
Beyoncé in the music video for Sorry wears the Lipombo hairstyle of the Mangbetu Women. It denotes Majesty, Beauty and Power!
Different Afros
Lemonade shows of all big, beautiful and different hair textures of black women. It depicts that their natural hair is something that are more than just keeping their heads warm. It's their HISTORY.
