thread about did/osdd1 since a lot of people don't understand it:

/safe , singlets retweet
the only thing that encouraged me to make this thread was a comment i saw on a youtube video, that was fairly ableist towards systems. just letting you know since people usually assume some major dramas happened with threads like these.
some terms before we start
--

system: someone with did/osdd1

singlet: someone without did/osdd1

alter: a member of a did/osdd1 system

fronting: when an alter is concious and in control of the body

switching: alters switching between who is fronting
dissociation: the disconnection from yourself. there are many different ways & severities of dissociation
systems form from trauma. when a child expiriences repeated trauma at a very young age, amnesia barriers will be built up. since the trauma occurs before the childs personality can fully integrate, it splits so that the child can live a healthy life unknowing of their trauma. --
-- only sometimes do systems actually know they're a system. did/osdd1 develop to keep them safe, and so they can survive and live properly. you're not really SUPPOSED to know you're a system..
what's the difference between osdd1a, osdd1b, and did?

did: fully differentiated alters. every alter is their own individual who has their own personality. when an alter fronts, they will not remember what was happening before they fronted.

osdd1b: also fully differentiated--
-- alters, with the exception of the amnesia people with did expirience (except for emotional amnesia)

osdd1a: full amnesia between switches, except less differentiated alters.
ableist things you might not've known were ableist:
our disorder is very complicated. people sometimes do things ableist towards systems without even knowing. terms like "multiple personality disorder" are outdated and offensive towards our community.
there is no evil alter. persecutors, protectors, any alters really, are not evil. it's how our brain copes and processes trauma.
terms like "personality" CAN be offensive. some people are okay with that term, but many are not since we are our own individuals.
stop romanticising us. our trauma isn't cute, or something singlets should headcannon their favorite characters as (yes, that happens a LOT.)
movies like "split" portray us in negative ways and show harmful stereotypes that demean us and make us seem evil.
if a system tells you that something you've done is ableist towards systems, listen to them and apologize. it's pure ableism.
i'll link some youtube channels with other good information in the thread, if you'd like to know more.

and by the way, if your only education of systems is "dissociadid", please just.. stop. dissociadid spreads false information all the time. just stop.
