/ What is the risk/benefit calculation for Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine vis a vis rare clots?

Three VERY CLEAR sets of charts have been released by the EMA showing the risk of clots against hospitalisation, ICU admission and death when infection rates are high, medium + low...
/ First up, HIGH infection rates. Take the jab, no question, unless under 30 with a quick choice of another jab. A lower risk of clots than of hospitalisation and ICU for all ages. For death, relative risk of vax is higher for under 30s only...
/ MEDIUM infection rate. Here the risk still in favour of the vaccine for all groups other than the under 30s. And again, for the under 30s, only say no to AZ if another jab is available. ICU admission is very serious, often life changing....
/ LOW transmission, of the type we now have in the UK. Here the risk/ benefit swings quite markedly, up to age 50 in fact, according to the EMA data. BUT unless you can get another jab, ask yourself this: how long will infection rates remain low in your area??
/ To understand how things might change and how hesitancy today can kill you you tomorrow read this from January in India. Remember also that the risk of getting a rare clot is about the same a guessing the last 5 digits of a strangers mobile phone number https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jan/20/indian-hesitancy-sets-back-worlds-biggest-covid-vaccination-drive
