weezer: the best worst band of all time

Weezer is a Power Pop band hailing from Los Angeles, California and as of today February 14th, 2021 have reached their 29th birthday, in celebration of this achievement i have decided to write a thread about why they are my favorite band of all time

Weezer originally formed back on Feburary 14th, 1992 with founding members Rivers Cuomo, Jason Cropper, Matt Sharp, and Patrick Wilson. Jason Cropper left the band in 1993 and was replaced by Brian Bell whos been the rhythm gutairst ever since

Since then they have been one of the most prolific rock bands of the 90s and were proven to be a force to reckon with after releasing thier debut smash album dubbed "The Blue Album" on May 10th, 1994.
The band then released thier 2nd album Pinkerton which

focused more on the personal pain and anguish of lead singer Rivers Cuomo. The album is very confessional and honest. Noisy riffs and fuzzy tones dominate the record as Cuomo spills his heart out. The album did not initially do very well and sold way less then the blue album.

This destroyed Cuomo who for almost 10 years hated the album. Matt Sharp departed the band in 1998, which destroyed weezer even more, they broke up and took a hiatus and then reformed in 2000 with new bassist Mikey Welsh who left the band in 2001 and was replaced by Scott Shriner

Now lets get into why i love weezer. For starters i think they're one of if not the most fun band in mainstream rock, their crunchy power pop riffs, infectious hooks, and nerdy songwriting all play into why I adore this band.

Now Depending on who you ask the discography for Weezer is either good, bad, or a mix of both. Me personally i think they are very consistent, they have weak spots sure but they usually make fun, enjoyable and maybe even melancholic songs that are easy to listen to

Now lets get into the main reason why this band works: Rivers Cuomo.
Rivers is one of the best hook writers of his time, he simply can not write a bad hook. When he tries his songwriting really shines, he can write a funny silly song on the one hand, or write something personal

and heartfelt, he truly is the leading force of the group. I look up to him a lot and i hope one day I can thank him for all the good that has music and work has done for me

As you could probably tell, this band and thier work mean a lot to me, and no matter what happens to me, i will continue listening and supporting weezer, they have and are getting me through some very tough times and for that i can give my deepest love to them. Thank you.
