I used to think when I was younger that women had equality and that I had nothing to worry about. We got the vote right? But it's the slow chip-chip-chip away that is the issue. It's the little things, that one at a time don't feel like much but it adds up. 1/
It's seeing senior positions filled with few women, and inferring that it's not for you too. It's being catcalled at conferences, or in my case it being assumed I am not a scientist. It's being asked to take notes, not lead. It's being spoken over. 2/
It's being thought of a bitch for being "too outspoken". It's feeling unsafe walking home at night on our own. It's being categorised as "too emotional". It's seeing less women getting funding, and awards and praise. It just keeps on chipping away. It's systemic. 3/3
