This is going to become a Canadian Big Lie. 1. The UK held down variants with public health measures, then vaccines. 2. Michigan had vaccines but didn't. 3. Provinces knew when vaccines were and weren't coming and opened anyway. 4. Canada's vaccination rate is actually very good https://twitter.com/csiaguy/status/1385603988406550530
Borders? Not a great job there, though the trucker supply issue is a big one. Vaccines? Every single expert I have ever talked to says we could never have vaccinated ourselves out of a third wave, not with double the vaccines. Public health measures matter.
And I would add on the Liberals: slow on flights, bad on preparation pre-pandemic but that is probably a pan-Canadian complacency issue, far too self-congratulatory — don't just say the borders are awesome — but PPE, vaccines, Safe Restart Agreement and financial support was good
But the key point, always, is this: every province could have restrained variants with public health measures. Every one. The UK did it, and they have a freaking variant *named after them*. Canadian provinces were at the wheel, and drove where they wanted to go.
I mean, we are doing just fine. https://twitter.com/bogochisaac/status/1385946482524758018
