/ I have mixed feelings on this report and in describing #yyctech as maturing...

We are on the upward bend but it is a long, steep climb - the trajectory is the right way but we need a bunch of fuel to keep us going. https://twitter.com/amandamsteph/status/1385356915325095937
/ 1st I will acknowledge the hard work & perseverance of the tech companies. They have grown in a climate which is young, lacked key entrepreneurial infrastructure and early stage investment. The ecosystem has been supportive and we are cheering each other on from within.
/ I am being cautiously ‘yay!’ because in my roles with @RainforestAB and the Calgary Innovation Coalition I know we are just one of many cities at this stage and of this size racing for global placement, talent recruitment, investment, and exits.
/ If we want to compete even in the top 100, we need to double down on our investment to bring more programming and funding to #abtech entrepreneurs if we want this momentum to continue. We need all levels of gvmt to contribute. @doug_schweitzer
/ As for female founders, we need more! I’ve been the annoying lady saying we can’t be the ‘new economy’ if our diversity stats are no better than any other industry. Our benchmarking for entrepreneurs to get funding must be more than simple ‘job creation’ & company valuation.
/ There are amazing groups supporting entrepreneurs in #yyc and the hunger to keep growing exists. They continue to push themselves to provide more and better programming, are looking for the gaps not being filled. Groups are working together better than before.
/ It’s been amazing to be part of and watch the tech scene in Calgary grow in my last three years of work. I will continue to champion it - whether elected or not. Lastly, here are some people and groups doing amazing work w/ entrepreneurs:
