With confirmable information scarce in the conflict between Ethiopian forces and the #TPLF in #Tigray, online campaigns, both for and against each side, are creating click-to-tweet narratives to capture the attention of an international audience.

Although #Tigray is slowly becoming more accessible, much of the region is still unreachable. When there is little available info, anyone can try and manipulate the narrative. Click-to-tweet websites published pre-written tweets for users to instantly tweet content about.
These campaigns, primarily coordinated by the Ethiopian diaspora engaging in grassroots online activism, have become a prominent feature of the information environment, as both pro- and anti-government activists vie for dominance over a definitive international narrative.

These groups encourage diaspora members who, by their own admission, had little to no understanding of Twitter, to set up accounts to amplify their content. This is one of the primary reasons such a large number of accounts were newly created and relatively blank.
These campaigns have a big impact. Most of the trending hashtags in #Ethiopia were part of campaigns. #TigrayGenocide was used in approximately 4.3 million original tweets (excluding retweets) created using the hashtag between November 4 and April 7. https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/5436680/
