Good thread about the TRUE origins of this flag ( toothpaste / ocean as some may call it). Every claim made against this flag has been debunked in this person’s tumblr blog long ago (link in the thread below).

I think i’m gonna add some info :
The flag on the right is deemed problematic solely because people confuse it with the flag on the left.
The flag on the right was made as an attempt to correct everything that was wrong and problematic with the left one...

However some people might think that the tones are still too similar so the creator created multiple versions to differenciate the two flags more easily (like those below). But it doesn’t mean that the 1st version of @GayFlagTwit ‘s flag is inherently problematic.

So why is this flag problematic ?
- It has been co-opted by a lot transmeds and trans exclus
- There’s no meaning behind the stripes
- It’s suspected to be hue-shifted from the sunset lesbian flag (however this isn’t true as this flag came out before the sunset lesbian flag)

However this flag is heavily inspired by the bear gay flag and lipstick lesbian flag (which is also inspired by the gay bear flag)

So yeah, this blue flag is actually mainly problematic because of its many ties to transphobic communities + its colours which carry the vibe of gay=boy=blue without any meaning or ties to lgbt history

That’s why @GayFlagTwit (a gay trans man) created this flag (and its derivates) that can be used by any gay mlm or nblm. It has been a community effort since he consulted gay mlm&nblm but also lesbians in the process.

Final reminder : All flags are derivative from older ones and that shouldn’t be a problem as long as the intent and the meaning behind the flag’s creation is good. Ofc you don’t have to like this flag, but don’t come at people who like it, especially if you’re misinformed.
