the lakes : all the references in the song to the lake district
THREAD
“take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die”

the lake district was made popular in the uk in the romantic era, due to the ‘lake poets’ who lived (and died) there and fell in love with the scenery.
“those windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry”

a clear reference to windermere in the lake district!
“tell me what are my words worth”

is a play on words in reference to one of the most renowned romantic lake poets - william wordsworth.
“i don’t belong, and my beloved neither do you”

historically, many rich aristocrats moved to the lake district to escape the hustle life of cities such as London and Manchester.

i believe this is taylor running away from the media and hustle with joe to find peace
links with peace from folklore

the song peace is all about how taylor feels she couldn’t give joe peace. the lake district is one of the most “peaceful and tranquil” places as described my worsworth - running away with joe here is taylor trying to find peace with him
