Latest NISRA deaths bulletin for Northern Ireland shows thanks to vaccination there have been no excess deaths in 7 weeks, the peak at 2518 being hit Feb 28th when there were 2718 Covid19 deaths. That 92% is very close to the 89.6% figure for Covid as cause of death /1
Todays update brings the likely total dying with Covid19 in northern Ireland during the pandemic to 2955 or 1568 deaths per million. The equivalent for the south is currently 63% of that at 990 deaths per million but in reality lagging reporting means that will be over 1000 /2
There continue to be Covid19 deaths, NISRA reported 10 in the week ending 16th April but because excess deaths figure is now 212 below Feb 26 peak of 2518 & dose 1 vaccination is approaching 50% you’d need extraordinary loss of case control to see excess deaths again rise /3
Souths excess deaths were 3200 according to RIP analysis reported by Primetime. The proportionately higher figure in the north in comparison to Covid deaths to late Feb may be a combination of a longer impact of Covid on other healthcare system & more systematic count in south/4
Each day I calculate an updated NISRA total from new deaths announced by DoH and add these to this thread along with other key metrics like cases, hospitalisations and vaccinations. Last weeks thread can be found at https://twitter.com/andrewflood/status/1383046997767290880?s=20
