The Spring 2021 Harvard Youth Poll, which me and my friends at @harvardiop worked on, just dropped!

Here is what you need to know:

(1/7)
1. Biden’s approval rating is at 59%, 63% among college students - highest in the 21-year history of the poll. Higher support among young people of color (African Americans 77%, Hispanics 70%)

(2/7)
2. Young Americans significantly more likely to be politically engaged than a decade ago (24% in 2009 -> 36% in 2021)+ a sharp increase in progressive political values.

(3/7)
3. Despite the hyper-polarization in America, hope for the future is rising. In Fall 2017, only 31% said they were hopeful about the future of America, vs. 56% now.

(4/7)
4. Politics is personal. 31% of young Americans say that politics has gotten in the way of a friendship.

5. Only 26% of young Republicans believe that Joe Biden won the election fairly. 68% overall.

(5/7)
6. A plurality (30%) believe that history will judge Trump as the “worst president ever”.

7. Sobering news: 51% of respondents reported feeling “down, depressed, or hopeless” in the recent weeks, 28% had thoughts of self-harm.

(6/7)
8. Ending on a high note: an overwhelming majority (76%) agree that we need more open-mindedness in politics.
