This is the crux of the whole issue. I don& #39;t mean this in a dismissive way, but people tend to take fandom seriously precisely because they have such deep personal attachment to it. That& #39;s valid, but also easily leads to dismissing that OTHER people have different attachments. 1/ https://twitter.com/KingSingh93/status/1385529738932989952">https://twitter.com/KingSingh...
E.g. There are people who found solace in classic AC& #39;s criticism of organized religion because they were struggling with their own faith at the time. Now there are people who are finding solace in new AC& #39;s focus on gender and sexual representation, for example. 2/
This is wholly separate from the sci-fi vs. fantasy discourse but the phenomenon is the same in literally every fandom that& #39;s ever existed. New elements are added and the OG audience feels pushed to the side. It feels like personal rejection which fuels hostility and cynicism. 3/
I& #39;ve seen this lead to takes like "get your own game, don& #39;t take away mine" which is super unhealthy. Not just for the fandom but for YOU, personally. Remember that you do not own these things. They were not made for YOU specifically, no matter how much it may feel that way. 4/
If you found solace in a piece of media for whatever personal reasons, that is great. It doesn& #39;t give you the right to take away the joy of discovery from others. It doesn& #39;t give you ownership, no matter how much time or money you spent on a product. 5/
It& #39;s easy to form those personal attachments, but try to recognize it for what it is. Acknowledge that the crux of the issue is not sci-fi weirdness vs. fantasy weirdness. It& #39;s you no longer feeling personally catered to, and it feels like YOU are being personally rejected. 6/
Instead of blaming others for taking away the thing that used to guve you solace, try to work on not taking it personally when something is no longer 100% suited for you. It was never made for you, you just got lucky that you found something in it that spoke to you. 7/
