Happy 'Woke People Pointing Out St George Was A Turk And Sneering At Patriotic Gammons Day'!

But seriously, Happy St George's Day! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Let's go back to the story of St George and the Dragon, because stories are important.
St George slayed a dragon which demanded human tribute. The concept of human sacrifice and scapegoating is an age-old human practice. One way or another, we still do it today. (More in my book A State of Fear.)
St George is a beloved English Saint and hero and the central character of a 'Christian' story, but there are pre-Christian precursors. The story survives and resonates throughout the ages because its essence is the epic battle between Light and Dark.
The English have adopted this man who represents courage and protection, as well as triumph of Good over Evil as their Patron Saint. We should trust and value the archetypes of the story and seek to embody those qualities today.
He wasn't English. He wasn't Turkish. (Turkey didn't exist then.) And none of that is the point of the story. He was a Hero and exemplifies the best human qualities we aspire to. Happy St George's Day 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿❤️
