WA Premier @MarkMcGowanMP is cutting the quota of Australians abroad allowed to fly into his from 1025 to 512 per week for the next month.

#StrandedAussies
- @MarkMcGowanMP on why he's cutting the number of #strandedAussies who can return home: "Given the situation around the world, with cases increases and the stress on our hotel quarantine system, it's important we have a pause on the number of cases coming into our q-facilities"
McGowan: 'We need to go back to what we know best.'

- ie. lockdowns and abandoning your own citizens abroad.

#StrandedAussies
This comes just a day after McGowan and the national cabinet agreed to cut by 30 per cent the number of Australians currently in India who can enter their country.

NB. Australia did not slash arrivals from UK when the variant was running rampant over Dec/Jan.

#StrandedAussie
Pretty horrible reality: On one hand Australians say - the rest of the world is so scary and awful and everyone's dying so much we must shut ourselves off.

On the other they say - but any Aussie out there - yeah nah mate, 'should've come home in March.'

#StrandedAussies
NB vital to point out that McGowan's/Australia's Zero-Covid approach and associated policies are hugely popular.

McGowan just wiped out the opposition with his recent reelection.

Hence why #StrandedAussies is still going on, one year on...
More McGowan: "If we're going to have returning Australians, this is the risk.

"Our hotels were not built for this purpose but that's the only solution we have at this point in time if we're going to have returning Australians and we all know Australians want to come home."
McGowan: "There's still 35,000 or so Australians overseas...now if WA is going to participate, this is risk is out there."

Note how McGowan says 'IF' we're going to have returning Australians, ie. clearly telling the public that it can choose whether to abandon citizens or not.
