Lemme tell y’all that are considering relocating to Ghana, the only thing I believe that can drive you back to the West is SALARY.
Lemme get to my underpaid job and I’ll do my small thread.
Although living in Ghana can be great, our salary is absolutely PATHETIC.
At work (in Ghana), I’m close to the highest paid worker and I still feel underpaid. To be very honest I could really be earning more as a waitress in McDonald’s?
Sorry I keep getting distracted. But ultimately, if you want to relocate to Ghana - think about WHY you’re coming.
If you want to come to Ghana to ‘make money’ think about whether you’re really going to make that money in comparison to what you’d be doing in the UK/ elsewhere. ESPECIALLY if it’s a 9-5 in this Ghana. Because you will br3 and your account will be empty.
So it’s all about knowing what you’re looking for. Personally, Ghana hasn’t made me rich (yet) but it’s given me many things that I see more important than money (atm). For example - power in the workplace. I’m a manager and I definitely wouldn’t be if I was working in the UK.
Of course if you’re a Diasporan and you get a good deal, your salary will be nice but there are very few deals like that. A majority of us are working at Ghanaian companies earning Ghanaian salary (ish)
My advice: lower your expectations on your 9-5 salary and look into other ways to make money. Ghana gives you the opportunity to have more side hustles. Especially as you’ve been exposed to the west, you’re gonna have way more business ideas. Tap into that!
I’ll also add that all Ghanaians know is enjoyment so you’ll be in the office at your underpaid job watching people enjoy 24/7 🤍
