Reminder:

-Rojava/AANES/NES is not an extension of the Assad regime.

-Fighters in the SDF/Asayish are not predominantly Kurdish.

-TEVDEM/PYD is not PKK.

-NES is not aligned with Iran.

-Kurds are not homogeneous in views.

Many people believe in opposite of these things.😑
“-Rojava/AANES/NES is not an extension of the Assad regime.”

YPG has repeatedly clashed with SAA over the years. For ex: Asayish and NDF are currently fighting in Qamishli.

Assad regime views YPG/SDF as terrorists. It even refuses to acknowledge Rojava and is hostile to it. https://twitter.com/servanenefrine/status/1385499538660761600
“-Fighters in the SDF/Asayish are not predominantly Kurdish.”

Majority of the ethnic composition of the SDF consists of Arabs. Most of the Asayish for instance that runs internal security in the NES are made up of Arabs.

“-TEVDEM/PYD is not PKK.”

The founders of TEVDEM/PYD such as Salih Muslim came from other Kurdish parties that existed in Syria, such as KDP-S. They established a party based on Ocalan’s ideology for their local context. It acts independently of PKK. https://foreignpolicy.com/2017/05/15/syrias-kurds-are-not-the-pkk-erdogan-pyd-ypg/
“-NES is not aligned with Iran.”

There are IRGC-backed militants operating south of the Euphrates River that have repeatedly attempted to attack SDF positions. Iran views Rojava/NES as an extension of a Zionist US-backed project. It has repeatedly sought to undermine it.
“-Kurds are not homogeneous in views.”

Kurds like any other ethnic group consist of people with varying views. Below pics represent different parties and leaders, each with a different political philosophy.

You will find Kurds that will fiercely argue with one another on this.
This thread was aimed at clearing up some of the misconceptions about the NES. Unfortunately, a lot of analysis on this region still relies on popular misconceptions.

Arguably, the standard of analysis applied to NES in comparison to rest of Syria is disproportionate.
