Replicant ain't a perfect game but it is a perfect Cullen game which is much more important
It is e v e r y t h i n g I wanted from this project. It's the same exact game but with a bump in visuals and better combat. Everything I loved about Nier including all the quirks and weird design choices? They're there.
Anything they change or add too is done so with the original intent in mind. The lighting is amazing, and further helps with environmental story telling. EVERY line of dialogue is voiced. You are able to feel the world come to life in front of you and that helps the side quests
Side Quests are all fetch quests basically. Do I care? Absolutely not because I just love hearing the residents of the world talk about themselves. It's so extensive and has added to my play time a lot.
The voice acting is also
Wow
Jesus it's good

For a production like this to happen entirely remote seems impossible. Imo it's the best english voice acting yet for the series. Sound designers also made it sound almost impossible to tell everyone recorded at home. It's crazy.
I was really worried parts like the text adventure parts would be cut or changed, but all those little weird design moments are completely retained. Those long segments where you have to follow Fyra? Kept exactly how they were. Taro said you will immerse in this world.
It says so much that when given a pretty big budget to remake/remaster the original Nier, Taro chose to keep the core game exactly as it was and just add on to what made it work in very minor ways. All the while making it more appealing and approachable to newcomers. Great shit.
To end this thread

Nier has not lost its identity, despite Automata's massive success. This is still Nier, and I'd argue this is more Nier than Nier.
