Occupying two roads, one leading to Boeοtia and the other to Fokida, the Greeks block the Ottoman army. Diovouniotis occupies the bridge of Gorgopotamos. Diakos occupies the bridge of Alamana. Komnas Trakas occupies Mustafabey. Panourgias and Bishop Isaiah occupies Chalkomata.
The army of Omer Vryoni advances from Lianokladi, while the army of Kiose Mehmet advanced from Lamia. Omer Vryoni reached the Greek lines first and having numerical superiority, attacked all positions simultaneously. The first Ottoman assault was launched against Diovouniotis.
In front of the masses of infantry and cavalry, Diovouniotis performed a fighting retreat to Dema. There the Ottomans were unable to use their cavalry, but the attack was so fierce that he was forced to retreat from there as well.
In Mustafabey, Komnas Trakas and Papandreas Kokkovistianos put up stiff resistance from the houses, the Church, and the mills. The Turkalbanians withdraw by order of Omer Vryoni who didn't want to get involved in house-to-house fighting.
Omer Vryoni then decides to attack Panourgias (600 men) at Chalkomata while keeping Diakos occupied. Panourgias puts up resistance until he was wounded. The Greeks fire and retreat as Panourgias is evacuated. Bishop Isaiah of Salona is beheaded during the retreat.
With Panourgias seriously wounded only the force of Athanasios Diakos remains. The army of Kiose Mehmet also arrives and joins Omer Vryoni in the attack on the bridge of Alamana. The entire Ottoman army (8,500 men) falls on Diakos (500 men).
Kalyvas and Bakogiannis occupy an Inn in front of the bridge with 2 men to fire on the Turkalbanians as they assaulted the bridge defended by 200 Greeks. Athanasios Diakos (300 men) sends reinforcements as the Ottomans break through to the other side and finally attacks himself.
Vasilis Bousgos tries to convince Athanassios Diakos to withdraw but he refuses and fights on with 50 men remaining. The rest had been killed or fled. Kalyvas and Bakogiannis break out of the Inn but are quickly surrounded and killed.
Diakos fights on. Thousands of Turkalbanians against 48 Greeks, who soon become 10 men. Vasilis Bousgos gets on the horse of Diakos (Astero) and rides off just in time. Athanasios Diakos is wounded in the right shoulder by a pistol shot causing his right hand to paralyze.
His sword in his left-hand breaks. Five Albanians rush forward and tackle him. Athanasios Diakos is captured alive and taken to Omer Vryoni. In the Battle of Alamana the Greeks lose a total of over 200 men.
