I need to read a story/book by an African author that is not focused on trauma. No murder, rape, child marriage, poverty, disease, racism, addiction, war etc etc. A happy story. A light story. A funny story. Surely we have those? Any recommendations?
The point I'm making is that books by African authors are filled with trauma. I like them, I enjoy them but most of them are about extreme suffering. Some people in the comments are saying that our stories depict our reality. Is our existence mainly centered around adversity?
But even if it's that our existence is centered around adversity, can't we imagine a different reality in art? What if we told more frivolous stories? What if we created art for it's own sake?
Please stop recommending "The secret lives of Baba Segi’s Wives" or "I do not come to you by chance" in the comments. It's been done like 20 times. I get it, lots of people enjoyed them. Of course I've read these two books. I'm choosing to reserve my comments on both
