[THREAD] I’ve seen comments on Emily Wang & the WSJ article. I didn't say anything before bc something felt off.

So, I spoke to her. She explained the context behind her interview & how it differed from the end result. I think it's important to help clarify & put this to rest:
Although she was approached as a fan, she said she shared insight from her work with the reporter only after explicitly stating it was from preliminary research on reception of merch, inspired by her (& co-researcher’s) interest in the IP growth and business aspects of BH / HYBE.
I’m glad I got the chance to speak with Emily. She was so nice and expressed disappointment in the article + sadness of how she is being painted. She also said she felt bad because she didn’t want this representation of her work to also discredit other ARMY researchers.
As a researcher myself, I definitely empathize with her and the fear of my interviews being used in a way that could harm BTS & ARMY's reputation. Unfortunately this is often out of our control. Some writers are wonderful in telling the story; some can certainly do better.
In our research community, it’s important to support each other & I’m grateful she trusted me to share this 💜

I hope this brings better understanding to the situation. Please feel free to use this as a resource & kindly share with those who use this ‘inside joke’ in the future.
It's late night on my end, but I'll definitely bookmark any questions / key comments that come about. Thanks all for reading.

This aside, lots of amazing news to celebrate with @BTS_twt, so let's be happy and kind to each other 💜
