I still remember the first time I was teased about the shape of my eyes, it was in primary school.

A couple of days ago, almost four decades on from that first instance, someone replied to a tweet, again making fun of my eye shape 👇🏽
Sure maybe I was better equipped to respond this week than I was back in the playground (nothing like a good ‘get fucked’), but what astounds me is just how shit it is that this still happens, or that it ever happened!...
That old saying sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me is actually bullshit. Racist ‘jokes’ and name calling do hurt – they do have an impact...
But apparently you aren’t supposed to let it show that it gets to you, because the person calling the names will know it had an impact - and you will look weak. Well I say fuck that. Racial violence and aggression whether physical or verbal is never okay - and it does hurt...
Tomorrow in #Sydney there is a #StopAsianHate vigil which we are organising alongside @AsianOzAlliance and @shonaasays because we are sick of the racism that infects our lives, we are fearful of the increased violence being inflicted people like us here and around the world...
Join us Saturday 24 April #Sydney at 3pm at Customs House for a vigil to #StopAsianHate
