I don't like Twitter, but for some odd reasons I have to be here. So, here is a long thread for you people. The past one week has been extremely difficult: my father, my mother, my sister, my step-mother and my little sister, all have been tested Covid positive.
Last week I had to fly down to Delhi for an appointment in the Austrian Embassy and since then I have been confined to a hotel room. My mother and sister live a block way from where I am stationed. But, I can only wave at them from their gate.
I go to the market every single day to get medicines & groceries for my mother and sister, but the chemists' complain of 'shortage'. The doctors recommend alternative medicines, but they don't have them either.
Online chemists & grocery stores give you slots for a week later since they are hand full. Before the lockdown, the Nepal Embassy in India had number of Nepalis in queue to get repatriated home. In the name of online payments, customers are getting duped.
Labs here have stopped PCR tests as they have been overwhelmed with the backlogs. Brace yourself if you have done your PCR test here, it'll take a week to arrive.
A week has passed, I sit down reading news from both Nepal and India. I am appalled by us Nepalis. You want to party. You want to get together. You want to do all the jatras. You want the government to shut the borders. You want the hospitals to be mindful of the vaccine queues.
To all those reading this, please be mindful of your privilege. Do you want to see people suffer? Come to Delhi. The government can bring rules, but saving yourself & family from Covid are in your hands. If you aren't responsible, you'll be gambling with your own life.
As of today, my father is in the hospital in Kathmandu. This thread is not to gain any unwanted attention but it is to raise awareness of the danger of this virus. This has happened to me, this can happen to you and your family as well. Be mindful of your actions.
