Last night I made this tweet about my concern about the discussion of anime and otaku culture in general and I have decided to reveal what I am concerned about the most which are visual novels. Something that at least in my point of view is niece. https://twitter.com/Duc8Azur/status/1384946453131505665
Since 2020 I have seen a pattern of niece things becoming popular and celebrated. A good example would be vtubers who have been around the internet for a few years now yet there popularity and interest grew tremendously.
Same goes for anime, the medium is literally over a century old spawning countless shows yet it’s popularity and interest blew up.
Going back to visual novels, I couldn’t help but think that they are still niece in the west but due a pattern I am seeing and the ever rising interest in Otaku culture, that may change and would thus start a new period of outrage within discussions of anime.
Despite that though, I don’t think visual novels will become a trend and a new target for Twitter and condemn anyone for liking it for the foreseeable because of lack of translation and that not many people are patient to read hours of dialogue.
Interestingly, as I was thinking about this thread earlier, I saw a small dispute about Fate/Stay Nights anime adaptions and the original visual novel.
