On the surface, the law compiles a database of COVID-19 hate crimes & does not seem to do much else. However, it sets in motion possible prosecutions from the Attorney General, DOJ, and FBI. Can they be trusted to do this on a big scale? Probably not. https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/937/text">https://www.congress.gov/bill/117t... https://twitter.com/POTUS/status/1385343517359288323">https://twitter.com/POTUS/sta...
Hilariously, the ACLU, which has sued the FBI before and full well knows the implications of this law, supports it. https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/aclu-statement-senate-passage-covid-19-hate-crimes-act.">https://www.aclu.org/press-rel... And as Against Equality notes later in this thread, it would strengthen the mass incarceration system in the U$. The ACLU doesn& #39;t care.
The ACLU must gave forgotten this fact about hate crimes: "In other states, where hate crime laws have been on the books for years, securing convictions for them has proven extremely difficult."- https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/3/27/why-hate-crime-convictions-are-difficult-to-secure-us">https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021...
Even Chris Hedges once said that war is a hate crime but you will never see bipartisan agreement on that... https://www.truthdig.com/articles/war-is-a-hate-crime/">https://www.truthdig.com/articles/...
Against Equality: "measures like hate crime legislation...puts the most vulnerable among us in jail for perpetuity, and it makes the oppressive structures of prison a more insidious part of our lives instead of dismantling them"- http://www.againstequality.org/about/prison/ ">https://www.againstequality.org/about/pri...
