Please stop asking teachers to strike to stop the UCP destruction. There are so many layers to this but at the core, it would be an illegal strike and we aren’t here to die on the sword for the province’s shitty voting tendencies. 1/
An illegal strike would put our professional organization (the ATA) into financial peril and there’s a really good chance we would be declared “essential” (ironic, I know) and be ordered back to work anyway. 2/
But that wouldn’t stop them from vilifying us in the process. I can see it all now, “Look what teachers did to students after all they’ve already been through!” 3/
And as much as all of you support us, (love you all for it, BTW) that has not been my experience with those who repeatedly vote blue in this province. They resent us on levels that are hard to describe. 4/
Teaching is a profession that is predominantly women and we’ve already paid a VERY high price to be primary caregivers and teachers at the same time through this last ~14 months. 5/
So please don’t ask us to give even more. We aren’t here to save you. We aren’t your moms. We aren’t your wives. We are real people who are VERY tired and we don’t have the energy to save this place from the toxic jerks who fund/vote conservative year after year. 6/6
