i saw a post on my tl talking about how its autism acceptance month and i would like to say happy #AutismAcceptanceMonth :D im going to talk about some information on how to support people with autism! rts are appreciated :D
autism speaks is an organization aiming to stop or cure autism, making it out to seem bad, and using the puzzle piece and the phrase light it up blue was crafted to make it seem as though autistic people had something missing from them and it was a boys disease, which isnt right!
an organization you can support is ASAN aka autistic self advocacy network which is run by other people with autism. if you would like to donate or see how you can help this organization, go here ( https://autisticadvocacy.org/ )
if you would also like to show support symbolically use the rainbow infinity symbol rather than the puzzle piece many, including myself, was taught to use in school. the symbol represents that autism is a spectrum that takes shape in many different shapes and forms
many may have heard about mark rober's charity event for autism as his son is on the autism spectrum. the charity he chose to support called next for autism, has relations and ties to autism speaks, and also aims to "cure" or hating on people with the disorder
DO NOT TUNE INTO HIS STREAM we don't know his intentions with supporting this organization but either way, tuning into his stream will indirectly help next for autism, which is the last thing you want to do to support people with autism!
always always treat people on the spectrum with kindness and understand that not every person with autism has the same type of autism, everyone deals with situations differently! be understanding and listen to them when they talk about issues that affect them
this thread is also in no means a way to speak over them i just wanted to show my appreciation for people with autism and im sorry that people discriminate against them so much they even have to have an acceptance month, it should be everyday of the year, anyway! love u :)
