Take a look at the rosters of the last 10-15 years of NBA finals.

What you will see:
1) Absolute Superstars (Lebron, Curry, Kawhi, Duncan, Kobe, etc.)
2) Size/Length/Athleticism (UP & DOWN the roster)
3) Shooting & Def

What you will RARELY see:
1) Players under 6’3”

#nbadraft
When players are smaller (below 6’3”), they are:

1) Unlocked by absolute superstars (meaning, they aren’t one of the best players)
2) Good shooters
3) Smart
4) Good defenders
5) Good teammates

What they aren’t:
1) High volume scorers w low %’s
2) Bad defenders
The lesson is: you want to somehow fill your roster with size, athleticism, toughness, elite skills (shooters, defenders, etc), solid teammates, & ABSOLUTE STARS.

And when you draft, you draft athletic/long guys early who have a chance to be at least your 3rd best players.
And the guys you get who aren’t super long need to be elite at something, very good defensively, good enough at shooting, and good teammates. You can’t be small and a pain in the a**, unless you are ELITE!

So don’t draft shorter guys early, & when you draft them…
…you draft guys who are elite at something, and you do so later in the draft. And you also do so if you have a chance to win the title during their rookie contract. Young, undersized guards do not do great things in the playoffs (usually). And if they do, their team is great.
