i actually want to make a whole ass doc of what disreptancies ive noticed in jp and en for claude like theres SO MANY TINY THINGS en claude was translated to be more light and jokey to be sure

maybe ill just make this the thread. the most recent one is the nuance of the floral tribute quest

i just RLLY liked how the jp specified moving forward in claude's quest.... i feel its important

"Mercenaries in a remote village like this... must be good karma, all thanks to my usual conduct!"

the specific word for karma is "天の配剤" which translates to "dispensation/mixed medicine of heaven" which is a saying for karma - "the skies dole out what rewards for good deeds

and punishment for the bad"

i think it's REALLY COOL that claude explicitly doesn't refer to gods in the JP at all from the get go and refers to a higher power like fate and destiny which is partly what he believes in and dictates his route

please know that my jp is like. not perfect and im definitely not a native so if anyone sees mistakes please tell me im just so thirsty for claude content

mock battle - when you go to attack GD first:
"Did they divert towards us...? I guess we'll have to force ourselves to fight head on."

"Ah, I guess I've been had.. I'll just have to hope the others pull through."

2. i found it weird because i don't really think claude hates losing that much but maybe that's just my interpretation. but he's just more like "i've been had by a better scheme"

it's more like. "I want to get serious" re: trying his best and i love the teasing - banter relationship they have. it's interesting that en translated it differently but i do see why

that's such a different take from the english and implies claude is so much more detached from what he thinks about his noble linage. he says it so casually, too

the translation is super accurate here but claude says it in japanese like he's realizing this fact in THIS battle in particular. it's a sad self observation than a statement of fact that he's believed in from before. if i had to translate it in the same nuance

it would be
"The nobles start the war, but it's the commoners who spill their blood first, isn't it."

I THINK it's really interesting that in jp claude almost NEVER says his own feelings on the matter, he only says statements of facts and trails off meaningfully a lot more. ( so far, anyway. ) en claude speaks in direct statements and adds on things like "huh. that's weird."

i don't know how to explain it. jp claude speaks in a much more detached way. if i talked to him i would not trust him because i could literally feel the wall he puts up and the distrust that radiates off him while en claude is a little more relaxed

funfact! the battle of eagle and lion is called "battle of griffins" in jp! that's why when the battle starts, one of the church knights lift up a flag with a griffin on it to announce the start of battle!

"It's over... I suppose this means that (we/things) have to change."
"I'll look around the village. There might be some people that we can still save."

i SAT ON THIS a long while because i had no idea what this might mean. as jp doesn't need a subject i don't know what claude is referring to when he says things have to change.

BUT i do think it's interesting that he states it, and the exact scene after is the moment he opens up about everything and gets hella serious. bangs pots and pans. remire is THE moment claude drops everything and puts on his serious face!!!!! it's the moment he decides to

trust byleth and open up!!!! because the situation got so serious!!! he can't be aloof as much anymore!!!!

either way, remire is THE shift where he decides things HAVE to change. either him, or the situation itself, it made he himself change his tune.

it's nice seeing that shift was a conscious decision that claude made. he basically steeled himself, said hey teach, look, shit's going down so lets get to the bottom of this, we're leaders

i think it's interesting what the jp title of this battle is. it's the "battle of lunacy/madness/insanity at remire" it's very strong word usage compared to all of the past titles in the game so far. imo, this is the point the game says ":) no more fun and games" and is

THE turning point in all the routes. as we all know. things only go downhill from here.

ANOTHER note is that claude refers to tomas in a more friendly way than edie or dimitri does. i do not know if this is a constant for him or if tomas is the exception because he spent a lot

of time with him -- dimitri and edie use ( 殿 ) while claude uses the more colloquial ( さん ). i haven't looked at other dialogue enough to note if claude refers to other adults as easily as he does with tomas, but if he does refer to tomas only as -san that simply drives

in the fact how close claude was with tomas before tomas threw it all in claude's face. i'll have to check around, because i do know he refers to rhea with the proper respect respect needed ( sama ) and he tends to keep to proper honorific rules when talking with others

i just think claude tsking like an anime character and swearing is very cute

i did have some things to say re: the battles before this but it's more tone based than content based so i skipped it. general claude is closed off and aloof comments go here
