Social Media outrage over inadequate healthcare is pure chicanery. Every person who is complaining about healthcare has had access to healthcare all these years and has availed of that merrily without asking if small town and rural India have the same facilities.
For city dwellers in India - facilities such as lab tests, CT/MRI scans have been available on demand while these things cannot be done on demand in many "developed" nations. But outside cities - it's thusssss - and we have been mooting "Health tourism" to attract phoren patients
Indians are secular until your community or religion have a nearby medical college to send your son or daughter to. Then you will use all the influence and reservation to get the poor schoolgoing sucker into that college, gaslighting him, saying that he will "serve humanity"
Hypocrisy is the name of the game. Collect doctor-patient statistics from the west & build more medical colleges & do not create the pyramidal structure requiring a base of community nurses, midwives, lab techs, physiotherapists etc. "Oh my son is a doctor. Your son is BA?"
With city dwelling Indians having the luxury of advance healthcare and not giving a damn about the peripheral area an epidemic was a disaster waiting to happen. Epidemics are not about doctors. It's public heath. A completely different ball game.
Ask your little munna who studied hard and joined medical college. He will inform you that there is a subject called "Preventive and Social medicine" that deals with epidemics and vaccination. "Oh my son is too clever. No public health for him, Only cardiology. Your son is what?"
Wealthy city dwellers do not understand how hypocritical it is to be able to choose from 100 plastic surgeons or 250 cardilogists. If the entire country had basic healthcare this "excess of everything" in cities and zero in the periphery would not happen.
And in a pandemic, small town people have no option other than to go to the city for treatment. They have nothing locally and the city is packed and overstretched.
