Hey! Important thread from a fanfic author (PLEASE RT)
As a content creator please do NOT read fanfictions on stream unless you ask the author for their consent. Not everyone wants that exposure, or to be associated with that. We are creators too, please respect our boundaries.
Reading "cringy" fanfiction of yourself publically only serves to create a mockery of typically younger writers. It's disrespectful, and turns someone's hard work into a joke. Just don't do it.
The double standards between the respect for fanfic writers and respect for illustrative artists is gross. You would NEVER showcase "cringy" or inexperienced artists's work for your viewers, especially something created out of their admiration and attachment to you.
Few people have any idea how disrespectful and discouraging it is, so I'd appreciate if non-writers listened to us when we ask you to treat us the way you'd treat any other artist.
(Fellow writers, if you have anything to add, please reply)
(For reference: Quackity in the past has only read joke/crack fics, but it can be hard to tell or something may seem like a joke when it's not. And regardless, this is still important and has been an issue with MANY ccs across all platforms. I trust him to be respectful.)
I'm muting this thread btw! This was intended to be informational from the perspective of a writer who's sick and tired of the treatment we get. I'm not really here to argue. At the end of the day we can't control them and there's nothing I can do except try to share our thoughts
