With relation to the fiasco that took place on @rteliveline today Re: The Dpt of Education’s newly released guidelines on Gender Neutral Toilets at schools, let me explain a few things:
1) The proposal is not to make all toilets at schools Gender Neutral toilets. The proposal is

to maintain male and female toilets but additionally to those, add a gender neutral toilet facility.
Every student will have a choice in which bathroom they use, so don’t believe the anti trans propaganda of “they’re forcing our kids to use mixed bathrooms”.
People expressed an

opinion of “but what about my daughter who’s on her period? Who might want a female toilet” The answer: Your daughter still has the choice to use the female toilet, as is rightly, her choice.
But let’s flip that too. What about a young trans man who still experiences a period?

There are no sanitary bins in a male toilet. He has to put a used tampon/pad in his pocket until he gets home to dispose of it.
So a GN toilet with a sanitary bin will alleviate that stress & anxiety. And still, just like the cis gender young women, he would have a choice.

GN toilets do not only benefit trans people, they also benefit cis people.
Reports coming from secondary school students have stated that one of the main locations of in-school bullying, take place in gendered toilets.
By diluting this environment, it can take away from the

private toxicity of private gendered spaces for young people.
GN toilets also alleviate an immense amount of stress and anxiety for not only non-binary people but also young binary trans people.
I can’t count how many times I, & different LGBTQI+ orgs have taken calls from both

young trans people & their parents explaining that the young person doesn’t eat or drink anything before or during school for fear of having to use the toilet.
No person in the country should be dehydrated or hungry simply because they are frightened of using the loo at school.

GN toilets DO NOT take away from anyone else’s freedom or privacy. They simply increase the inclusivity of gender diverse students. Nothing more. Nothing less.
This isn’t a debate. This is fact.

PPS: For the G*ender C*rits trying to say that trans people (specifically trans women) are a danger to others in public toilets.
Overwhelming evidence shows that it is in fact trans people that are overwhelmingly physically &/or sexually assaulted in toilets. Fact.
