My main takeaway so far from Jerusalem’s night of tensions and clashes was that Israel police did a good job trying to plan and funneling the far right rally into one area and keeping them separated so there wasn’t violence between Jews and Arabs.
This was not easy to do, they had to cordon off areas and spread their forces thin and there were clashes between Palestinians and police and I guess also very minor with some Jewish far-right activists but what I saw they did a good job pushing back both sides.
It’s not easy for police to do this and they didn’t have massive forces and they appeared to act with restraint not wanting escalation. I could be wrong, I didn’t see everything. But in sensitive areas they appeared to do this.
They were trying to prevent scenes like this and it’s difficult in tense times with youth running to find victims https://twitter.com/suleimanmas1/status/1385360106112667651
Again, this is very bad and it’s hard to police everywhere as night goes on its worse https://twitter.com/localfocus1/status/1385359013077000194
