After a day absence, here is your complete AB COVID # analysis for Thursday. And I'm so sad we're letting this happen to our province. Devastated. 1/
#s today are 1894. THIS IS A PANDEMIC RECORD FOR ALBERTA AND WE ARE DOING NOTHING TO MITIGATE ITS INCREASE (prev record 1875 on Dec 4). 10-30% of these people will go on to have LongCOVID, a long term disability. this is 190-340 people! In one day. 2/
The 1894 is a 14.0% increase over last week's 1662. Yest revised number of 1765 is a 22.6% increase over last week's 1440. Positivity is a demoralizing 10.7%. The average positivity continues to climb to 10.04% a pandemic record. (previous record of 9.61% on Dec 9) 3/
Oh god the variants. I should do a whole thread as to how horrific the numbers are. Two days of announced VoCs of 2659 over total 3659 or 72.7%. Huge jump of P1 as backlog finally caught up? More than a doubling by 366 to total of 548. Early exponential growth in P1.4/
B117 Daily cases: Apr 17 918/1496 =61.3% Apr 18 884/1397= 63.2%. 1st case of B1.617 announced. worth a note but pales in comparison to all the other horribleness announced today. 5/
Hospitalizations inpt 2 days ago +12 to 398. (yest 402 but don't trust that). Week over week increase from 330 to 2d ago 20.6% increase. ICU +2 to 116. Week over week incr from 88 of 32%. These are atrocious #s that really are hard to contemplate. 6/
We'll surpass our Dec ICU record of 151 in a week if this keeps up. In two weeks: 202. Exponential growth is a bitch. Every illness was #predictableandpreventable. Tragic. And 6 deaths today. Above the usual range of 2-5/day. 7/
A note on schools. It was stated that 25% or 1 in 4 of schools has an alert or outbreak. That is massive. It is truly incomprehensible that only three school districts have gone online (and remember, private schools in Calgary Edmonton and Ft. Mac are still in school learning) 8/
Kids get covid. Kids transmit COVID. Approximately 10% of kids get longCOVID. So approximately 250 kids from last week's 2500 infected <19 y.o.s now will have a long term disability thanks to inaction and denial. 9/
I keep hearing our leaders say we fight the variant the same way we fight the original strain: masking, distancing blah blah blah. They keep forgetting that in the 1st and 2nd wave it wasn't these actions that saved us. It was strong gov't restrictions. 10/
Policy matters more than all the "concern" and "personal responsibility" we can throw at COVID. We will not immunize ourselves out of the pandemic. Coasting will only give us more death, illness and suffering. I'm so sad and disappointed in our leaders. fin/
