so what can you do to ACTUALLY help autistics? (a thread, pls rt and share)

for starters- do not, under any condition, join @MarkRober’s livestream on april 30th.

@NEXTforAUTISM, the charity that he is supporting, aims to PREVENT autism, aka eugenics.

they also support ABA therapy, which teaches young autistics that their symptoms are wrong and ‘bad’

tune into a stream hosted by actual autistic people supporting ASAN, an autistic-led organization.

-it’ll be hosted by beckspectrum on twitch (actually autistic) with a really awesome lineup of other autistic creators from 4pm-12am est on april 30th.

you can listen to #actuallyautistic people about what we want and need!

for example, most of us prefer to use label-first language, such as ‘autistic person’, rather than ‘person with autism’.

we also don’t use the puzzle piece logo due to its tie to @autismspeaks.

you can educate yourself on what being autistic means, what our community is saying, and ways you can avoid being ableist.

over all, the best things you as allistics can do is:

-incorporate activism into your normal life, not just when somebody is called out.
-listen to actual autistic voices and uplift them, don’t speak over us
-support the autistic community through education
-share information!

to mcyttwt- you don’t get to tweet once about a cc using a slur and claim to be an ally.

we are everywhere, all the time, and we need help. too many of us are poor, homeless, hungry, abused, and targeted.
