We really do have to talk about the main part of DID not being alters of the fragmation of self and how that effects development 🧵
And what I mean about this is DID isnt *just* alters talking to you and switching (it IS part of it though. I am not denying that). The issue is thanks to SOME youtubers, people think DID is just alters, without understanding what alters even really are.
Ofc I’m talking about specific did/OSSD systems here I don’t know shit about endo systems so...🚶🏾
First and foremost DID comes from trauma. I cannot say this enough. You can NOT have DID without trauma. It is not possible. Okay. Okay. This means trauma specific related symptoms are a HUGE part of DID that do not get discussed.
Just to name a few:
1. Flashbacks from emotional to physical throwing up
2. *aggressive* nightmares
3. Panic attacks, depression, anxiety
4. You know what CPTSD is? If not google it and read a little. Most people with DID will also have CPTSD/PTSD
Alters are a part of this because we are FRAGMENTED. They hold parts of us for specific reasons. They’re parts we needed to survive a world that did not want us to. Alters can hold anything from to a single emotion to a entire traumatic experience.
They can hold hobbies or feelings for people. They hold what you needed when you were 4, 6, 8 and so on.
Having fragments at a young age is complicated because if I don’t grow up feeling angry. How do I handle anger? If I don’t grow up holding sadness what do I do the first time I feel depression? I don’t feel like that’s discussed enough.
I know switching is like the big deal on DID spaces and that’s cause it DOES take part in it lives! But I think we can share the focus with other things as well. Thanks for reading if u did.
I’ll regret adding these tags but #dissociativeidentitydisorder #dissociatwt #pluralgang
