On this #EarthDay2021 , I am going to say the uncomfortable things.

Climate change is not an opportunity for you to build your brand.

Your feelings about climate change may actually be irrelevant.

Individual power is a barrier to collective power and solidarity.
Engaging with climate leadership is one of the most fraught and terrible professional fields - and guess why that is? Because of the scientists, engineers, policy makers and their cronies who use respectability politics and gatekeeping to dictate who is included and lauded.
You want to change the world, but cannot even be bothered to look at yourself first.

And so the leadership in these spaces is often a **revolving door** of abusers, technocrats, sycophants, and bigots.

Yes, that is right.
And we are supposed to kiss your feet and venerate you - because on the inside you feel those messy pro-social intentions of white saviorhood which tells you that “you are one of the good ones.”
Those shining men on the hill who fought for the climate? Guess how many people they kicked down that hill. Guess how many times they leaned on vulnerable people, sneered down at them and had their back room phone calls. All for the glory of being “one of the good ones.”
For these men and the women who prop up their egos - it is the failure of their imagination, and the icy grip of their tiny fucking egos, that keeps all of us in this death-dance with the planet herself. They are not the heroes we’ve been waiting for.
